PUTRAJAYA: Consumers will enjoy cheaper broadband services following the announcement by four telecommunication companies to reduce the price of their fixed broadband packages by up to 56%.
In a statement issued today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the announcement by Telekom Malaysia (TM), Maxis, TIME dotcom (TIME) and Celcom was made following the call by Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
Gobind had urged the telcos to offer cheaper broadband services with increased speed, now that the Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP) had been implemented.
“All the telecommunication companies are currently offering packages which start from less than RM100 as well as packages which offer higher-speed at cheaper prices,” the statement read.
According to MCMC, TM’s starter pack of 30 Megabits per second (Mbps) before MSAP at RM139 was now priced at RM79, while Celcom’s 40 Mbps starter pack has been reduced to RM80 from RM180, Maxis’ 30 Mbps starter pack now at RM89 from RM139 and TIME’s 100 Mbps starter pack now RM99 from RM149.
Meanwhile, TIME’s package of 500 Mbps was now priced at RM139 while its 1 gigabit (Gbps) package was now RM199. – Free Malaysia Today
